are two sisters who were born and raised in the Steubenville, Ohio area. The close-knit Italian community is the hometown of the inventor of the electric pizzelle iron Charles DeMarco (1956) and also hometown to actor/entertainer Dean Martin.
Our mother was the first generation to America from Italy from the Ciccarelli family. What acquired skills they had, they brought with them from years of tradition. Recipes were passed down, not always by pen & paper but by practice and patience. Each generation put its own signature twist to their family favorite. Pizzelles were colored red & green for the holidays, and others would add a flare of flavor using anise or even whiskey to the batter. But always without fail, “Baked with Love.”
Our mother’s passion of making that batch of cookies took all day. Basic ingredients, a primitive pizzelle iron, and love went into baking one cookie at a time. My sister and I took those fundamental baking lessons and embellished on that taste of tradition. Our unique gourmet pizzelles blend old world traditional Italian pizzelles with a new world twist; bringing it to the next culinary level. We fill each pizzelle with a chocolate, peanut
butter, or a marshmallow; fold and then hand dip each in ambrosia
chocolate, adding a variety of toppings & flavorings.
We partner with Ohio Proud, a marketing division of the Ohio Department of
Agriculture. Our emphasis is more on quality than quantity. We are part
of a proud heritage of pizzelle bakers from our grandmother and mother,
to our children and grandchildren. We have all experienced this old world tradition, reminiscent of our past and the significant of family, food, and culinary traditions, and preserving this art form to pass down to the next generation. Baking is not just something we do but rather a part of who we are. We know you will enjoy our Dolce Pizzelles as much as we enjoy baking them.
